Retro-Spin Flashing®
Our
newest product is our Retro-Spin Flashing®. The
patented 'Slide From The Side' design allows for a new flashing
installation around penetrations, such as electric service stacks,
without having to disassemble them. A Retro-Spin Flashing® is
a roof jack or pipe flashing which waterproofs roof penetrations
that do not allow for 'over the top' installations.
How
It Works - The
ingenious design spins open, slides on and spins closed, enabling
an installation from the side rather than over the top. This
eliminates the need to disassemble a permanently attached
roof penetration. For example, roof penetrations might be
supporting a sign, a piece of equipment, electrical conduit,
or fence post which may be expensive or time consuming to
cut, disassemble or remove.
Another
example is a building that requires re-roofing may have cooling
towers with large refrigerated water lines that are part of the
mechanical infrastructure of the building. These lines are different
sizes and penetrate the roof. They might be constructed of copper,
galvanized or black metal. These lines need to be waterproofed
at the point where they penetrate the new roof.
With
our Retro-Spin Flashing®, we've eliminated having
to use old flashings or install pitch pockets, which will eventually
leak. Our design allows for the easy installation of
a new flashing or jack, whenever it is too difficult or too expensive
to disassemble a roof penetration.
Currently,
it can cost up to two thousand dollars to have a utility company
disassemble the electric service, install a new flashing on the
1.5" or 2.0" galvanized conduit, and then return to
the job to re-connect the power. Our Retro-Spin Flashing® can
easily be installed in two minutes by anyone, using a hammer
and nails.
A Retro-Spin Flashing® assembly
is constructed of tightly fitted interior and exterior impact extruded
roof jacks. Our patented design enables the interior flashing to
rotate freely within the confines of the exterior flashing. Pre-punched
access slots are cut through the sides of the two flashings creating
a 'door' that is opened and closed using the spin action. Roof
penetrations can now be waterproofed using the closing door technology,
enabling a 'Slide From The Side' retrofit installation.
Easy Installation - Simply
choose the Retro-Spin
Flashing® that
is large enough for a roof penetration to slide through the open
slot and enter the conical interior of the jack while allowing
for the flashing to rotate or spin closed with obstruction. Hand
tools are not needed when placing a Retro-Spin Flashing® around
a roof penetration.
Next, use the manufacturer's recommended
procedure for installing a roof jack flashing into the roof and
securely nail the Retro-Spin Flashing® into place.
That's all there is to it.
Our 3" Retro-Spin Flashings® are
fabricated from single sheets of metal with no attachment seams.
The Flashing's conical shapes are three inches high. A four inch
horizontal flange, or skirt is formed to allow for the final attachment
within the roofing system. The diameter of the conical opening
of a Retro-Spin Flashing® can be three or six inches.
A variety of pipe sizes and geometric shapes can be flashed and
waterproofed with our Retro-Spin Flashing®.
Different Applications - Use
a Retro-Spin
Flashing® instead
of a surface mounted pipe boot to waterproof a standing seam roof.

For flat roof applications, our galvanized Retro-Spin
Flashing® is the choice of professionals. Simply
spin the flashing closed around any geometric shape, nail in
place and then solder tight using normal soldering techniques
and a good quality copper grade flux. This creates a highly effective
waterproofing system.
Use a Retro-Spin Flashing® in
combination with our Retro-Split Collar® to waterproof
angle irons, square posts and I Beams. This Kit makes waterproofing
as easy as 1-2-3!
For
quality assurance, our
Retro-Spin Flashings®, and all of our products,
are manufactured and assembled in the United States from
first quality electro-galvanized stainless
steel sheet metal.
